Stationery and Style with Emily McCarthy
I realized recently that I was out of all my favorite stationery. I needed some new stationery that could fit the bill for a traditional thank you note but, feel updated and modern at the same time. I am just over the curly monogram that I have had for 17 years. I remembered meeting Emily McCarthy at The Southern C Summit briefly and her killer instagram feed that I follow. A few moments later after a little insta-stalking there was the perfect stationary for me. This line is too fabulous not to share.
Savannah, Georgia
What is your training?
I graduated with a BA in Graphic Design and Photography from LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. I’ve also been in the stationery and gift industry for 10 years.
What inspires you and your designs?
My mission is to set a new bar for personalized entertaining and hostess accessories with my truly unique and inspired monogram designs that are only available through the Emily McCarthy lifestyle brand.
What is your favorite piece?
It’s a tough decision because I feel so passionately about everything. If I’m choosing a favorite gift, you can’t go wrong with the Cocktail Napkins – designing your own unique combination is half the fun! If I’m choosing a little luxury for yourself, I love the Signature Stationery Set or Gift Tags – bright colors, beautiful monograms and luxury printing for a great price point.
How has the your area influenced your work?
Southerners draw inspiration from a namesake, friends, life experiences, family or a marriage. They are the basis of our heritage and the patchwork of our life story.
What is your favorite restaurant in Savannah?
My favorite restaurant in Savannah is The Olde Pink House – Local Secret – call and reserve the Wine Cellar Table for 2 – it’s totally romantic and intimate with candlelight!
Other favorites are Public, Leoci’s and Local 11 Ten.
What is your favorite cocktail?
My signature drink is Prosecco with a dash of Limoncello!
How do you balance personal life and work?
Having set hours for both – I never try to work and be a mom at the same time, if I’m on mom duty, I don’t check/answer emails or try to do computer work. When I’m in the office – I’m dedicated to working and supporting my staff. I also turn of everything at night and the weekends. Phone goes away after 7 and I spend quality time with my family. I don’t work on the weekends either! Separation of the 2 worlds is necessary and also exercise! Pure Barre keeps me sane!
Dream trip?
Capri, Italy – I’ve been and cannot wait to take my family!
Dream commission?
Probably a collaboration with one of my favorite brands: kate spade, C-Wonder, Elizabeth McKay or Mark + Graham.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Our personalized Cocktail Napkins if you think ahead, if not, I love a beautiful candle or bottle of Prosecco
Who is your style icon?
Iris Apfel (mine too)
Your favorite up and coming designer / artist/ creative?
What is your most treasured possession?
My Nana’s baby grand piano – I love playing it!
What are you reading?
What are you listening to?
new O.A.R.
What are your favorite blogs / publications?
The Southern C and of course you!
in addition to a fabulous shop and blog, Emily posts the most wonderfully chic graphics with etiquette tips. Lord knows we could all use a little etiquette reminder…
Here are just a few more things I am drooling over in Emily’s shoppe…
