What is your training? 

i have no real art training.  other than drawing classes in college. most of my “training” comes from a desire to see colors together.  i just continue to push my own beliefs regarding color. “will this look good next to that?” that kind of thing. i paint from my gut.  i know instantly if the colors are all wrong.  

applying paint and other mediums is a work in progress. i am always learning something new when it comes to applying paint.  this is probably something i would have learned in school.  i studied theater and english literature in school.  

 What inspires you and your designs?

color mainly, but also i get inspired by other art.  i will see a work by helen frankenthaler and be like, i have to try that!  this is why my work changes so often.  i am always trying new things. i get bored painting the same style over and over.  i couldn’t do it.  

  What is your favorite piece? 

this changes all the time but recently it’s this one:

How has the your area influenced your work?

i don’t think it has, really. i mean, i think if i had ever painted in a different area i would be better able to answer that question.  i have always painted in this area (atlanta) so i have nothing to judge it by.  i would love to move somewhere for a while and see if my answer would change.  i’d like to try the yorkshire dales first.  

 

 What is your favorite restaurant in Atlanta?

west egg for breakfast.

but the best meal i ever had in atlanta was at bacchanalia.  mesmerizing.  that anne quatrano knows a thing or two about food. it’s a once every 2 years type of place though.  you’d go broke otherwise.  

but there is good food all over atlanta, we just don’t get out much. lots of places i need to try.  

 

What is your favorite cocktail?

a moscow mule. there is an old world quality to it that i love, plus it’s served in a cute, little copper cup.

although i recently found out it was invented in new york. and has nothing to do with moscow, or mules. 

 

How do you balance personal life and work?

it’s hard to balance life in general, isn’t it?  we try to do fun things on the weekend together.  i cook dinner for my family every single night, from scratch so i think that has to earn me some life points. 

 Dream trip?

eat my way through france. 

  Dream commission?

an entire wall of abstract.  just me, some paint, brushes and a wall.  

 Your favorite host / hostess gift to give? 

diptyque candles. this year though i’m going to try homemade vanilla extract.  (i can hear my friends now..”NO!  the candles THE CANDLES!!”)

 i’m not sure who is up and coming but i would love a large work by ray ceasar

my family.  is that boring?  i don’t really have many treasured items.

maybe my le creuset pot.  

 What are you reading?

robert galbraith (aka j.k. rowling)- the cuckoo’s calling. it’s super boring. 

but that’s good because i only read before bed.

lorde. her voice is so pure.
