One Room Challenge Spring 2017: Kickoff
I am thrilled to announce I will be participating in the One Room Challenge this spring! I am humbled to be participating for the 6th time…crazy.
See all my previous ORC reveals Fall 2013, Spring 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015, & Fall 2016.
One Room Challenge for those not in the know, is a semi-annual event where 20 bloggers, made up of Professional Designers, Diy’ers, and Interior Design Bloggers, transform a room from start to finish hosted by Linda of Calling it Home.
This time I will be doing my bedroom and my closet. Yes my husband lives there too but he has no say. This is actually like the humiliation challenge. I am showing you my very most private spaces. They are a wreck. About 20 months ago I had a MAJOR cleanup and everything was in serious order but this train has slowly fallen of the rails and it has now crashed. I am so embarrassed to share this but it is kinda like admitting you have a problem. I am a packrat (possible hoarder) with too much stuff. My husband is so much neater than I and I am driving him batty! It hasn’t been this bad for long but I started cleaning out around New Years and made a huge pile in my chair. Then it got mixed with clothes I was keeping and then I have never addressed the issue but let it grow with this challenge to resolve it in the back of my head. I know I am a wreck, I am going to change my ways. I have never really offically done by bedroom but changed pieces here and there. I am now really doing it from top to bottom.
My bedroom:
This angle isn’t that bad but just wait…
notice my bedside table magazine problem…
Marshall’s chair which he cleans off every few days…
The piles are amassed…
Holy moly! Corner of hell…
This is disgraceful…I am aware.
My closet:
This feels more humiliating than naked pictures being shared…
I am considering hiring an organizer as I type…I need HELP!
My terrible cloud ceiling light fell down then I never addressed it…
Purses upon purses, upon purses, upon bags, upon purses…
All suggestions for help are welcome. Clearly, I am desperate.
Shopaholics Anonymous may be knocking on my door momentarily.
For the next six Wednesday’s, I will be giving you updates on our bedroom & closet (dread) progress.
Check in next week for my plan (it is a GREAT one) and sponsors I will be using.

I can definitely relate…I finally did my old master bedroom when my closet looked just like yours…and it was of course, the last room in our house to get done. Super excited to follow along and see the amazing things you do with your space- I always love all the colour you use…so inspiring!
Kelly
I am so excited to see what you do. Thanks so much for sharing! My room and closet look the same way. Following your posts is probably going to be really helpful for me!
Jen @ RamblingRenovators
You’re so brave for sharing! But just think how much more awesome the After will be now that we’ve seen the Before. Looking forward to seeing you working your magic in these spaces.
Alyce
Have you read Marie Kondo? I think her method of asking whether the item sparks joy makes it easy to decide whether to keep or get rid of something.
Erin
Oh my! That is a closet full of treasures for sure!! You’ve got a challenge ahead of you but I know you’ll do a great job!!
Danielle
If you hadn’t shown that corner and your closet I would have thought the space was normal! Best of luck with the decluttering, that will for sure be the hardest part! And the space will be totally gorgeous and functional when you are done. You just have to make it through the next 5 weeks!

Well, I feel great about my own closet. This will be a huge before/after. Good luck, and of course my husband has no say around my home, either.

I am so happy to see that I am not the only one with a closet that looks like that 🙂 Looking forward to finding out what you do with the space!

without a doubt this is my favorite blog post of your EVER!!!!! Do you realize how much better we all feel now!!! I cannot wait to see the magic you work…it will be nothing short of a miracle…an organizer might not be a bad idea…but I mean it…I LOVE THIS MESS!!!! Thank you for sharing naked pictures of your bedroom!
Jennifer
Have to admit, piles can be a problem for me. Piles of paper are the absolute worst. You’re going to be so happy to have this organized : )
Lucille
Let me know if you come up with a solution to the “piles of paper” problem. I definitely have that! Thanks.

I’m already feeling much much better about my not-so-perfectly organized closet. Thank you for that. We just moved and stuff got shoved in; time for me to come up with a better organizational plan.
By all means hire a professional organizer … or better yet, chill a bottle of wine and invite your most opinionated but stylish friend to help you purge and sort your stuff. I’ve gotten thru that part all on my own but it took about one month of nibbling away at it.
Best advice I’ve gotten is if you saw it today in a store, would you love it so much you’d pay full price for it?
Erica Reitman
We have a super duper tiny house, so I’m already deeply jealous of yours (even before the reno!). Super excited to see what you do in this space!!

Andrea
I’m pretty sure if I took pics of my bedroom right now it would look the same, lol. Can’t wait to see what you do!
Mary @ I Like it Lovely
Thank you for being so honest with your messes. We all got em– only few are brave enough to show em. Good luck with the challenge. I’m sure you’ll do great.
Lucille
I have no suggestions! My bedroom definitely looks worse. I have piles of clothes everywhere. I have piles of papers in other rooms! Can’t wait to see your ORC plan next week.
