Fashion Fantasies: Rosie Assoulin
I told you to expect loads of fashion this week. Resort 2015 is very promising!
My friend pointed out a beautiful image in House Account posted by Capitol featured a designer with which I was unfamiliar, Rosie Assoulin.
I am seriously swooning over this collection.
Hard to believe that it’s been just one year since Rosie Assoulin launched her namesake line. Since her debut last summer, Assoulin has quickly captured the industry’s attention with her modern takes on occasionwear, which notably earned her a Swarovski CFDA Award nomination. While fashion Cinderella stories like Assoulin’s are few and far between, her new Resort collection stands as further proof that the designer’s overnight ascent was no fluke. After establishing a distinct language for the brand early on, Assoulin continued the conversation this season by updating signature plays on sculptural volumes and vibrant color combinations. Current fans will gravitate toward the block-striped strapless tops and halter gowns with cascade details, as well as the crisp white cotton look that paired a crop top featuring dramatic sleeves with wide-leg trousers. “I feel like this girl is ready to walk onto the set of a Quentin Tarantino film and kick ass, ” said Assoulin of the latter outfit during her intimate presentation.
What felt different this season were the new emphases on organic fabrics and more casual daytime offerings. This focus was exemplified by standout pieces including a beachy raffia hemp hoodie (styled with a matching baseball cap and tote); a boxy T-shirt cut from raw linen that appeared to be covered with candy buttons; and a gauzy blue button-up teamed with a matching ball skirt. Elsewhere, Assoulin notably riffed on the idea of surfer-inspired board shorts by showing them in elevated fabrications alongside cozy sweaters. If anything, the collection could’ve been edited down a bit more, but it was still one for the win column. Overall, Assoulin has set the bar high for herself by creating serious eveningwear for girls who don’t take themselves too seriously, but she remains unphased by the great expectations now placed upon her. She said, “We’ve been received warmly and don’t want to mess it up. Sometimes it’s easy to worry: ‘Am I too much?’ or ‘Am I not enough?’ At the end of the day, I’m just focused on being myself.”
