Decorex Find: Ashley Hicks
I was thrilled to find so many new wonderful sources at Decorex on Blogtour London. The volume of new accessories, textiles, furniture, wallpaper, lighting etc… was overwhelming. I was truly a kid in a candy store. It was my design heaven. Thank you again to Modenus for hosting Blogtour and exposing me to all these new experiences.
Ashley Hicks is not a new find as he has been designing for ages but, he just introduced his new fabric collection at Decorex and it is FABULOUS. I am a devotee of all things Hicks including David, Ashley and India. The emerald print below stuck out as a favorite especially against the beautiful Aubergine walls.
The images above are from the Decorex booth. Below the images are all from Ashley Hicks website. They are a showhouse room at Wool House. I adore the cabinet of curiosities and all the crimson against the charcoal.
Ashley Hicks was born in 1963 and trained at the Architectural Association in London. He worked briefly for his father, famed interior designer David Hicks, before starting his own design practice.
In 1997 Ashley Hicks designed his first furniture collection, named Jantar Mantar, starting with his interpretation of an ancient Greek Klismos chair. In 2002 he published Design Alchemy, a review of interiors and products designed by him and then-wife Allegra (they married in 1990 but divorced in 2011; they have two daughters.) Ashley designed a series of Allegra Hicks shops, and ranges of home accessories sold in them.
Ashley wrote a personal memoir of his father, David Hicks: Designer, in 2002, with a foreword by Tom Ford. Starting in 2003, he created David Hicks by Ashley Hickscollections of fabrics and carpet. In 2009 he published a definitive review of his father’s career and life, David Hicks: A Life of Design.
Ashley has designed architecture and interiors in Europe, the USA and the UK, mixing private residential projects with occasional commercial work. He divides his time between London and Oxfordshire.
