Cashiers Designer Showhouse
The 21st Annual Cashiers Designer Showhouse opens this Friday and I am thrilled to be a part of it as a special guest. This event is full of talent, amazing programming and is sure to delight any design lover.
The showhouse runs from July 27, 2018 – August 5, 2018.
It is presented by Cashiers Historical Society & Media Sponsor Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine.

About the Showhouse
The 2018 Cashiers Designer Showhouse will take place from July 27th – August 5th at a wonderful, historic home that truly embodies all that is Cashiers. Worthy of being preserved and appreciated, the home is an elegant estate with a traditional gothic style, making it the ideal palette for local and visiting design professionals that the Cashiers Historical Society, in partnership with Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, have invited to unleash their creativity. The enriching week full of energy and style will kick off with an Opening Night Gala on July 27th, feature numerous lectures, book signings, and workshops throughout the week with notable artists and designers, and will close off with a Closing Croquet Brunch on August 5th with Mark D. Sikes.
About the Cashiers Historical Society
Cashiers Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Cashiers, North Carolina through education, stewardship and advocacy. The activities of the Cashiers Historical Society encourage people to stop, look, and listen. A sense of community is strengthened and an appreciation of the heritage of the Cashiers area is kept alive through the society’s numerous seasonal activities.

Friday 7/27: Opening Night Gala
The 2018 Cashiers Designer Showhouse will kick off with an Opening Gala on the evening of July 27th, which will feature a preview of the Showhouse. Asheville Motown band, The Business, will be serenading attendees while Southern cooking show host, Vera Stewart, who is easily recognized by her winning smile, contagious enthusiasm, and passion for her work, will be catering the evening and hosting a book signing in the demo tent for her recently-launched cookbook, The VeryVera Cookbook: Recipes from My Table.
Honorary guests of the Gala include Danielle Rollins, Dennis Schuhart, Jennifer Boles, and Ann & Sid Mashburn. Enjoy wine from The Highlands Wine Shoppe and beer from The Satulah Brewing Co.; craft cocktails from Cordial & Craft and Dixie Vodka; a cigar and bourbon bar brought to life by ASW Distillery; a special silent auction; and shopping from specialty vendors, such as Hazen & Co., Firemoss Pottery and Sapelo Skin Care, among others. Throughout the week, an Oakleaf garden pop up shop will be open, and attendees can enjoy wine from The Highlands Wine Shoppe each day.

Saturday 7/28:
The afternoon will feature a tablescape demonstration with Clary Bosbyshell Welsh and Mallory Mathison Glenn using Leontine Linens, and china from Michael Devine, Ltd. Additional $35. In addition, at 2:30PM, Julianne Taylor and Tara Guérard will both be present to sign copies of their books. Whispering Angel rosé and hors d’oeuvres from The Chattooga Club will be served in the attendee tent to all guests.
Sunday 7/29:
Starting at 1 PM, attendees can enjoy a D-I-Y flower arranging workshop with Kakhi Huffaker Wakefield of K Wakefield Designs. Kakhi will show attendees how to build a floral arrangement using a wide range of foliage, lichen, mosses and flowers you can find in the Cashiers area. You will be inspired pay attention to the beauty that surrounds us and to create your own truly individual and natural arrangement for your home. Additional $20.
The afternoon will also feature a healthy beauty discussion with the founders of Savannah-based luxury skincare brand, Sapelo Skin Care, and complementary cuts and hairstyling from members of the talented team at Atlanta’s Van Michael Salon.
Monday 7/30:
The morning will feature hand sculpting edible sugar flowers with esteemed Western, NC wedding cake baker Serena Owen of Sugar Cloud Baking Co.
The afternoon will feature a presentation with interior designer, Douglas Hilton, titled “No the painting should not match the sofa” alongside live painting with artist Cynthia Perryman and Calyroad Creamery artisanal cheese tasting.
Tuesday 7/31:
The morning will feature a presentation with Cashiers Historical Society’s founding member and historian Jane Nardy titled “Tales of Cashiers Valley”. Following this is an afternoon design discussion with Bradley Odom, Jeffrey Dungan, and Kirk Moore paired with Highlands WIne Shoppe wine and hors d’oeuvres by Chefs Linton & Gina Hopkins of Resurgens.
Wednesday 8/1:
Renowned Cashiers fire chief, Randy Dillard, will be discussing the history of Cashiers alongside the famous Cashiers fire truck. During the afternoon, Southern Baked Pie Co. founder, Amanda Wilbankswill be on-site discussing her growing company. Guests can also enjoy a D-I-Y Elderberry Tea Demo with Mary Palmer Dargan, RLA followed by a book signing of Timeless Landscape Design along with complimentary pies from Southern Baked Pie Co.
Thursday 8/2:
Highlands’ The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts pop-up shopping event hosted by designerKatherine Ford. Pottery demo at 11 AM with Frank Vickery, Director of Ceramics. 2 PM cocktail class with Cordial & Craft mixologist, Lexie Harvey utilizing spirits provided by ASW Distillery. Additional $20.
Friday 8/3:
Begin the day with a fashion presentation at 11 AM featuring Midheaven Denim by Kathryn Boyd Brolin accompanied by Katherine Ford’s curated looks + handcrafted headpieces. Followed by “In with the old! Out with the new!” presentation by CODARUS’ Thrifting with Tyler.
“Preserving Tomorrow’s Future Today” with Davis Picklesimer of the Highlands Wine Shoppe andDale Heinlein of Satulah Mtn. Brewing Co. at 2 PM. A cooking demo with The Barn’s beloved chefKristin Jorgensen will follow at 2:45 PM. Additional vendors will be joining the showhouse throughout the weekend including, but not limited to: Sea Island Forge Kettles, Croghans Jewel Box, and Mollie Jenkins Pottery.
Saturday 8/4:
11 AM morning conversation with Chief Impact Officer, Erica Hall, of the The Akola Project, a nonprofit jewelry company that trains and employs Ugandan women to handcraft jewelry with fair and sustainable materials.
2PM Keynote presentation, “Beautiful” by honorary guest MARK D. SIKES (additional $35) immediately followed by a book signing of “Beautiful: All American Decorating and Timeless Style” byMARK D. SIKES paired with complimentary Whispering Angel r osé, charcuterie board provided byTravis Boswell of The Orchard, and sweet treats by Sugar Cloud Baking Co.
Sunday 8/5: Closing Croquet Brunch
Featuring Honorary Guest and esteemed interior designer MARK D. SIKES
The week will be celebrated with a Closing Croquet Brunch on August 5th where guests are encouraged to wear their whites while enjoying live jazz music, croquet games, an Oakleaf Garden Popup with Kirk Moore, putting lessons with Bobby Grace, live paintings by Diane McPhail, Katie Madden, Steve Mckenzie and Jana Young of Jana Ink and Paper, an expansive full-service bloody mary bar brought to life by Cathead Vodka, Cordial & Craft and Sister’s Sauce, wine from Highlands Wine Shoppe, craft beer from popular Atlanta brewery New Realm, delectable southern soul food prepared byDistinctive Design Events, and specialty vendors as well as an exciting silent partner— you won’t want to miss!
