Artist Spotlight Series: Reagan Geschardt
Vernon, New Jersey
What is your training?
My training is as far back as I can remember. I would always draw and paint as a child and took classes. Then at the University of Alabama I received a BFA. There I studied under the late abstract artist, Alvin Sella. I also studied a year abroad in Florence, Italy at Lorenzo de Medici.
What inspires you and your designs?
Inspiration comes simply from anything with color and design. I spend a lot of time combing through all our coffee table books and reading the latest design magazines. Sometimes I pretend I'm creating a painting for one of the interiors in a magazine. I also grew up traveling around Europe. I have been to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Norway, Paris, Rome, Prague… Just to name a few. I'm greatly influenced by European culture.
What is your favorite piece?
I'm not sure I have a favorite piece. However, I love getting pictures from clients with my art in their spaces. Here are a few that I think work nicely!
Beth Field Interiors
How has your area influenced your work?
I grew up all over the place, but I did spend 8 years in Atlanta and 10 in Naples Florida. Now I reside in New Jersey just 45 min outside of Manhattan. The quick trip into the city serves as a life line of creativity!
What is your favorite restaurant in (your city)?
It's a quiet place called Claremont Tavern that rests in the coolest old building in the back roads of Bernardsville, NJ. They have the best burgers and cold cold beers!
What is your favorite cocktail?
I am definitely a corona girl at heart and I love a good glass of red wine!!
How do you balance personal life and work?
Personal life is family. I'm married with children whom I adore and my painting melts into that life whenever and however I can make it happen. Lets say it can be interesting especially with my 4 and 6 year old girls who like to paint! Literally they climb on my back! I find it most helpful to set up their own canvas' to paint by my side!
Dream trip?
Simple- rent a home in Provence for a summer. Paint all day, cook great meals (well really my hubby) and have plenty of great friends visit whenever!
Dream commission?
Oh perhaps it's Michelle Obama requesting my services to create something fantastic for their bedroom in the White House! Ha- think big right!? Hmmm yes a really Big fun piece!
Your favorite hostess gift?
It depends on the friend but an easy one is champagne! Yummy bubbles and always Clicquot.
Who is your style icon?
Grace Kelly. She had an innate style from casual preppy to ultra couture.
Your favorite up and coming artist?
My husband of course! Danny Geschardt inspires me everyday! We don't have studios in the same room so I love sneaking into his to see his latest creation. Our work is often sold and hung together so I think we are kind of similar. (Www.dannygeschardt.fineartstudioonline.com)
What is your most treasured possession?
It's a beautiful Chanel ring that's oversized chunky silver piece that has an identified four leaf clover on the face that my husband purchased for me when we were in Munich. He surprised me.
What are you reading?
Mostly vogue and Elle decor as it seems a real book is just too hard to imagine right now. Although perhaps in Nantucket this summer I will can steal a day?
What are you listening to?
Buddha bar. Any of them.
