I am excited to share a local artist that I recently discovered at my local frame shop, Campania.

His wild and whimsical figures make me happy whether they are on the side of a building or canvas.

Nico Amortegui

Charlotte, NC 

  

What is your training? 

I am self-taught. Love to learn by observing / studying others.

What inspires you and your designs?

 

I am extremely inspired by Latin American Folk art and these days love to paint about human kindness and hope.


What is your favorite piece? 
La familia. it’s part of the first series I ever did when I started painting. 


How has your area influenced your work?
My house and neighborhood landscape are a big influence in my paintings. I love my backyard “compound.” : )

What is your favorite restaurant in Charlotte?
 Sabor, Soul GastroLounge, Haberdish have to be some of my favorite spots – good drinks, delicious food, cool space.

What is your favorite cocktail?
Tequila. 


How do you balance personal life and work?
I try to work nights so it doesn’t affect my family time, but  am blessed to have a great woman by my side that helps me balance both. 


Dream trip?

Road trip across Central and South America.


Dream commission?
The 2 murals I am finishing up for the Charlotte Airport.

Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Something for the liquor cabinet. 


Who is your style icon?

James Dean 


Your favorite up and coming artist?
Jose Parla. He is not recent up and coming, but he is one of my favorite living artists.

What is your most treasured possession?
All the Latino folk art that we have in the house! It can be a bit much for some as in there are no blank walls in the house. 


What are you reading?
No too much of a reader, but I love art and architecture books.
Right now, I am looking at “1000 Details in Landscape Architecture.”
What are you listening to?
At the moment – Grandmaster Flash full set in England. 

What are your favorite blogs / publications?
The National Geographic.
