Artist Spotlight Series: Marquin Campbell
Meet Marquin Campbell, a creative extraordinaire. This lovely lady can’t pick one medium because she is so good at many…
Greenville, South Carolina
What is your training?
I studied at The University of Georgia and received two degrees: One in Drawing, one in Painting.
I then pursued post-graduate studies in Fashion Studies (Fashion Design) at Parsons, The New School for Design in NYC.
What inspires you and your designs?
Travel, Photography, Color, Textiles, Texture… If you check out my Pinterest Boards you will see I am in love with lots of things. I appreciate good design, balance, and composition.
What is your favorite piece?
I think my favorite piece is always the last piece I worked on. All the other pieces are what have lead me to that one, and so it really is a coming together of all my past work in one piece. My current favorite piece is a large 48 x 48 commission I created for a friend.
How has the your area influenced your work?
Never in a million years would I have expected to be living in South Carolina. But Greenville is a progressive small southern town that cares about the art. I think because I’ve been so supported in my endeavors, with excellent patrons, I have been given the ability to really create and do what I love; It’s such a privilege for this to be my job.
What is your favorite restaurant in Greenville?
American Grocery hands down.
What is your favorite cocktail?
A margarita with agave and great tequila is my all time favorite.
How do you balance personal life and work?
By scheduling time with my husband, friends, and family. I try to put three dates on the calendar a week- for coffee, wine, a workout together, dinner, etc with my ‘people’. Yoga has also been a strong centering force in my life since I got into it 10 years ago.
Dream trip?
I’m dying to go to India to take in the color and textiles.
Dream commission?
A piece for the MOMA. My favorite museum in the world.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
My neighbor gave me sourdough starter a few years ago. I use it religiously and bake three little loaves once a week. If I really love you, you have gotten my special bread.
11. Who is your style icon?
Iris Apfel. She is a true original who beats to her own drum.
Your favorite up and coming artist?
I have two dear friend, Harrison Blackford, who creates beautiful work I admire.
What is your most treasured possession?
My Great Grandmother’s Lalique glass Amethyst and Diamond Brooch. It terrifies me to wear it, but I love looking at it.

I’m a HUGE fan of Marquin’s!! I have several of her beautiful paintings in my shop, and she created the showstopper of my recent One Room Challenge. I’m so very happy to have made her acquaintance. What an amazing talent!
