Columbus, Georgia
What is your training?
I dabbled in art my whole life and started taking it seriously my sophomore year of high school. I studied studio art with a focus in painting at Columbus State University and graduated a little less than a year ago.
What inspires you and your designs?
My recent body of watercolor & ink paintings are inspired by floral x-ray photography. (Pictures attached)
What is your favorite piece?
My favorite piece from my recent watercolor collection is Red Azalea.
How has your area influenced your work?
My work is not inspired by my immediate surroundings. I am inspired by natural elements, bodies of water, the horizon, I often look to photography for inspiration and travel when I can.
What is your favorite restaurant in Columbus?
What is your favorite cocktail?
How do you balance personal life and work?
Those areas merge into one for me. I enjoy painting for long periods of time and the solitude of my studio. I try to make time to see friends and when I do we usually talk about our work, paintings, shows so it doesn’t feel like there is much of a separation.
Dream trip?
To take several months off from everything and travel the country in an RV.
Dream commission?
I enjoy doing work for public/corporate spaces. I’d love to get a commission request for 10+ paintings to fill a cool hotel, like The Cosmopolitan.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
My calendars or scarves 🙂
Who is your style icon?
@dannonkcollardmua on Instagram.
Your favorite up and coming artist?
What is your most treasured possession?
A snow globe my husband gave with a picture of us inside. It also has an engraving of a cat on the bottom and the worlds “I Love You”.
What are you reading?
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It’s a really great book which talks about getting rid of all your possessions that don’t bring you joy.
What are you listening to?
Podcast: Art For Your Ear, Music: The XX
