I am thrilled to introduce you to a a fun find from the Paul + showroom at ADAC.

What is a BlackCatTips?

A BlackCatTips is a painter and muralist. A BlackCatTips is a poet and a thinker— a teller of tales.

A BlackCatTips is Kyle Brooks, a streetfolk artist from way down in the American South.

In addition to his studio and mural work, Brooks creates street poems and whimsical roadside art installations. With his brush, bright colors and a few found materials, he paints the world happy.

Brooks lives in Arabia Mountain USA, Georgia with his pretty wife, new young son and rickety old dog. He also likes hot drinks, biscuit houses and growing orchids.

What is your training?

for the most part i am self taught. i liked art early in life and took some basic art lessons in school. most things i figure out how to do in a backwards way.

What inspires you and your designs?

nature, patterns of the world. connections in time and space. the spirit of inspiration that flows around us and shows himself to those who have their antennae up and ready.

What is your favorite piece?

heres some artists i admire… i like carlos paez villaro,

i like leonard knight

and ray johnson

What is your favorite restaurant in Atlanta?

lately i like to go when i can to my friends Hudson Rouse’s place… Rising Son in Avondale estates, near decatur.

i also like a little place called Gato Gato in Candler Park, Atlanta.

What is your favorite cocktail?

i haven’t had drink in a bit but i do enjoy a little rye whiskey when i get a chance.

How do you balance personal life and work?

my life is my work. i work all the time. i keep it close to my heart and mind. i have a hard time turning it off. for example, i was supposed to be taking a nap this week and i was laying therewith eyes closed planning out how i can build concrete sculpture in m yard soon.

i want to go to uruguay

What is your most treasured possession?

my wedding ring, made of antler, turquoise and wood from the mountains of utah. i also really like minty green turquoise house paint.
