What is your training?
I trained as a graphic designer and had lessons in painting and drawing and various techniques and mediums.
What inspires you and your designs?
i love plants, flowers, animals and birds. Color, pattern, shape and form inspire. Exotic locations, city life and fashion inspire too.
What is your favorite piece?
I’ve loved every place I’ve travelled too pretty much but India is one of my favourites so far. I was in Rajasthan for 3 weeks in Feb/March of this year and absorbed so much from being there. The color and color combinations, the use of pattern and design in everyday life and the bustling vitality make a must see for any curious artist or traveller.
How has the your area influenced your work?
Life in Canada…I’ve had to tone it down a lot and try and figure the marketplace and what it wants. A difficult task as I’m so into colour but I’ve worked around it and made it work for me i guess.
What is your favorite restaurant in Toronto?
What is your favorite cocktail?
How do you balance personal life and work?
Since my daughter has been at school full time, its not so much of a struggle and balancing act anymore. She’s also more independent so i can work the whole day and not have to really think of anything else. its nice, yet its sometimes hard to get motivated.
Dream trip?
India was it! Next would be Italy and Spain.
Dream commission?
To design a full bedding line, packaging for tea or designs for kids clothing

I love Orla Kiely
Your favorite up and coming artist?
