Artist Spotlight Series: Blakely Little
Charleston is a hotbed of creativity and a growing artist community and one of my favorite cities.
My latest artist spotlight Series feature is another young talent working out of Charleston’s Redux Studios.
Enjoy the vibrant coastal works of
Charleston, South Carolina
What is your training?
I studied studio art & arts mangement at College of Charleston, but I would say I really ‘became an artist’ during my semester abroad in Florence, Italy. I studied at SACI (Studio Art Centers International) and it was incredible.
What inspires you and your designs?
The coast! I could say it a hundred ways, but its the spot where the land meets the sea, and the sea meets the sky that truly inspires me.
What is your favorite piece?
Endless Summer and Soft Sea
How has the your area influenced your work?
Charleston is the most amazing coastal town. I love that I can explore waterways from the ocean to a river with marsh. It’s so dreamy, and every day I get excited to capture the water in all the colors I love.
What is your favorite restaurant in Charleston?
Leon’s Poultry & Oyster’s. The char-grilled oysters and the fried chicken sammy are to die for!
What is your favorite cocktail?
I love a good margarita! Feels like summer in a glass!
How do you balance personal life and work?
Sometimes it’s hard because work feels so personal. I think about it all the time and am always dreaming up new ideas. Having a studio really helps because I can get out of my house, and I know it’s time to get down to business. Personal life is dreamy because I have a husband who is so fun. Somedays I would rather just hang out with him, but we both know somethings gotta get done!
Dream trip?
Get on boat with my husband, and cruise the coast of the Mediterranean. I would love to stop at all the little beach towns and cities.
Dream commission?
I would love to do a big, like wall sized, regatta painting for a coastal home over looking the water.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
A big bouquet of wildflowers!
Who is your style icon?
Blake Lively – so sassy!
Your favorite up and coming artist?
What is your most treasured possession?
My turquoise Mini Cooper- Lucy
What are you reading?
Love Does, by Bob Goff– again… I read it almost every summer!
What are you listening to?
What are your favorite blogs / publications?
I love Garden & Gun,
and Coastal Living.
