Wanderlust Wednesday: West Texas and Big Bend National Park
While I am grateful to have a safe place to stay, I have never been more eager to go back out and see the world.
I am a wanderer by nature.
Seeing new things, people and cultures inspire me and I am missing it desperately.
Texas holds a piece of my heart. I would love to do great big western road trip. I have mentioned my great desire to go to Marfa before. On that same adventure I would love to go to Big Bend National Park as well.
The Local Chapter looks like a perfect spot to glamp!
Native Texans and husband-and-wife team, Baxter Box and Amber Venz Box, created The Local Chapter as a private retreat for the design-minded adventurer.
Frequent visitors of far West Texas and passionate natives of the Lone Star State, in 2017, Baxter and Amber found and secured 392 acres of untouched, private high desert land on the Western boundary of the Big Bend National Park and began work on a private refuge from the demands of city life.
Sharing a border with the National Park, The Local Chapter offers the most proximate and exclusive accommodations in the region, with just three private guest yurts and a maximum guest occupancy of 6.
The untouched desert landscape of The Local Chapter sits high above neighboring Terlingua and Study Butte on Maverick Mountain and is densely filled with native ocotillo and cactus plants. Unobstructed 360° views from each private yurt begin with the Chisos mountain range and extend to the famous Rio Grande.
The Local Chapter is located in a designated International Dark Sky Area, which provides a distinguished quality of starry nights that can be seen from the comfort of bed through the center dome of each yurt.
Intentionally situated just 100 miles from the art hub of Marfa, The Local Chapter Big Bend provides proximate activities for both the leisurely and the outdoorsman.
Withdraw from obligation and unwind with us in an adult environment as you explore the last frontier and experience the unique landscape and culture of the Texan West.
Another stop in the area would be the very chic Willow House.
Willow House is a twelve casita desert retreat on over 250 acres of private land. With unobstructed views of the Chisos Mountain Range, it is the perfect location to relax and unwind in Far West Texas. Its close proximity to Big Bend National Park allows guests easy access to the Rio Grande River, Chisos Basin hikes, and everything else the area has to offer. If you are not much of a chef, there are several restaurants within a 3 mile radius that are open for dinner 7 days a week. If you enjoy cooking, the communal Main House has a fully equipped gourmet kitchen. Whatever your style while traveling, we built the space to be versatile. We encourage our guests to take a sunset cruise around the property, stargaze around the fire at night, mix a cocktail, and hopefully meet a few new friends along the way. The space is well suited for entire group events as well- serving as a serene setting for a wedding, milestone birthday or company retreat.
Who is ready for a change of scenery???
