What inspires you and your designs?
I stay inspired by fueling my life outside of the studio. . .with cooking, hiking with my family, practicing yoga and traveling. Keeping a mind body connection and practicing gratitude, opens me to up to dream big and let my creativity flow on the canvas.
-I love collecting patterned papers
-I am drawn to really color-forward interior design
-I follow a ton of food feeds on Instagram. They tend to be beautifully curated and cooking is therapeutic to me
What is your favorite piece?
Currently-
1.Pop of Artichokes-48×48 mixed media on canvas
2. Walk on the Wild side- 50×40 framed mixed media on paper
3. Rise with the Crowds- 72×48 mixed media on canvas.
How has your area influenced your work?
When I lived in Louisiana, I painted a lot of wildlife because that’s what I photographed regularly. My brush strokes then were impressionistic and bold. I have lived in Nashville for almost 5 years and my work has shifted into something more contemporary, refined and intentional. I also think this has to do with time. . . I have been painting for over 10 years now and my mark-making, style, and subjects are completely my own. If you put that many hours into anything, you can’t help but hone your craft into something original pouring our from the fabric of your own unique life.
What is your favorite restaurant in Nashville?
What is your favorite cocktail?
Right now I am loving tequila, so a Paloma
How do you balance personal life and work?
I am a very structured and organized person by nature, but even more so since having a child. This keeps me on track most days and I like to get up early and crank it until about 3pm. My time is limited so I am very intentional in the pockets of time I am in the studio. To balance my work, I try to plan trips or periods of time each quarter or after a big show to refill my well, relax and feel inspired again. I also try to exercise every day which helps clear my mind and transition from work to family life.
Dream trip?
Right now, I am dreaming of renting a house on Kauai, Hawaii for a month with my family. Unplug, sit in a hammock, read, paint, snuggle my baby, hike, eat great food, drink margaritas. Spring is my busiest season, so I am going to crank it and then I want to recharge somewhere by the sea. You can never go wrong with salt, sand, and sea.
Dream commission?
Hhhmmmm. . .I feel so lucky that I have worked on so many dream commissions already (see pics).
The Nashville Courthouse just purchased my largest Crowd diptych (72×48) for the main corridor.
I am very excited about my work being purchased for public spaces so that people that may otherwise not own original artwork can enjoy it. My Crowd Series especially speaks to a sense of community and gathering together.
But, I would probably lose my mind if Reese Witherspoon called me up and commissioned a custom painting!
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Succulent in a white pot from Oak Nashville
Who is your style icon?
Love love love everything Kendall Simmons does. She is an interior designer in Nashville with a fabulous sense of color and pattern. I want her to design my forever home.
Your favorite up and coming artist?
I love watching what Logan Ledford (i featured her HERE) is up to in New Orleans. We were next to each other at a show years ago and I just fell in love with her work. I commissioned a “Spot” painting from her 2 years ago and feel strongly that she is paving her own way and going for it which is inspiring.
What is your most treasured possession?
I have no idea. Probably my phone because I take a bazillion videos of my son on it and then watch them with my husband when he goes to sleep. Typical new mom I guess.
