What is your training?

I studied commercial art in high school just before computers hit the scene, but for the most part I am a self-taught fine artist and graphic artist. I love the challenge of figuring things out on my own and I’ve always been a “trial by fire” kinda girl.

What inspires you and your designs?

I’ve always been inspired by color ever since I was a child. Wayne Thiebaud was one of my favorite artists and I could stare for hours at his colorful gum ball machines, cakes and pies.

I’m also heavily influenced by my graphic and web design background. My latests series of op art is reminiscent of “flat design” which hit the digital interface landscape around 2010. You’ll also see my graphic portrait series which is drawn entirely on the computer using a vector program.

What is your favorite piece?

If I had to rescue one piece from a burning fire it would probably be “Saturation Point”. I was highly inspired by the color combination when I painted it.

How has the your area influenced your work?

I’ve lived in and around Nashville all my life, and I think the huge community of artists and galleries we have here has influenced me to simply keep doing what I’m doing. As for my work, I don’t think the culture has particularly influenced my style.

What is your favorite restaurant in Nashville?

If you’re a design lover like me, you just can’t beat Sinema for the atmosphere. It’s an old historic theater that was remodeled in the classic Art Deco/Old Hollywood style.

What is your favorite cocktail?

Vodka martini…filthy 🙂

How do you balance personal life and work?

Since I paint in my home studio and I’m able to design remotely from my laptop, work tends to permeate most hours of my day. But I’m happiest when I’m creating, so it’s not the kind of work I would ever dread. When not working, I love to visit galleries and hang out with other design-minded friends. And for the past 10 years I’ve loved riding sport bikes and dirt bikes with my husband. I’m an adrenaline junkie so it’s a great way to blow off some steam.

Dream trip?

I’ve always wanted to visit Tokyo. I think the culture shock would be an amazing experience.

Dream commission?

I’d love to paint a commission for a space designed by Mary McDonald. Her bold graphic patterns combined with traditional elements is something I find very appealing.

Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?

I always bring wine and it’s always a welcome gift!

Who is your style icon?

Again, I’ll say Mary McDonald. She is timeless and always so put-together.

Your favorite up and coming artist?

My favorite up and coming artist is Brian Tull. (@artistbriantull)

I am fascinated by photorealism and he does it like no other!

What is your most treasured possession?

Most definitely my wedding ring. My husband’s parents passed away when he was a young boy, and this ring was his mother’s. His parents were very much in love with each other, so the ring has good juju attached to it. It’s a constant reminder of the relationship I always want to have with my husband.
