Artist Spotlight Series: Sallie Robbins
I am thrilled to feature a young talent on the rise in my latest Artist Spotlight Series feature.
This southern gal has captured my heart with her bold Native American headdresses. Her feather series is just fantastic as well. I am very into watercolors right now.
Enjoy getting to know
Denver, Colorado
What is your training?
I grew up always in art classes, studied at Parson’s The New School in NYC for a summer in Undergrad and managed an art gallery in Atlanta for 3 years. Art has always been a huge part of my life, the fact I could turn it into a career has been an awesome blessing!
What inspires you and your designs?
Design, outdoors, friends and family, travel, all the typical everyday good stuff.
What is your favorite piece?
My favorite piece was for a friend who lost her sister, she asked me to paint an image of her sister walking into a garden with her daughter. It’s so special and I loved how it turned out so happy and ethereal!
How has your area influenced your work?
Having recently moved to Colorado, everyone has a great relationship with outdoor living and it has influenced my movement towards earthier tones, animals and feathers.
What is your favorite restaurant in Denver?
El Camino! Give me a margarita and queso and I’m good.
What is your favorite cocktail?
A Moscow mule in a cold copper mug.
How do you balance personal life and work?
Trying to be present wherever I am, balance finds itself as long as I am enjoying the moment in both professional and personal situations.
Dream trip?
I will never not want to be in Italy. Preferably on a rooftop in Florence overlooking the Ponte Veccio with lots of wine.
Dream commission?
A wall mural on a street that I love, or a giant feather for an Architectural Digest or Elle Decor spread.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Who is your style icon?
Sienna Miller/Grace Kelly
Your favorite up and coming artist?
Carlos Ramirez, I’m obsessed.
What is your most treasured possession?
My childhood stuffed lamb. He’s been through the ringer. My mom doesn’t let me take him with me because if he is at home she knows I will always come back to visit.
What are you reading?
Strange, but tons of cookbooks! I’m trying to compile all of my favorite recipes into a personal collection. To write and illustrate my own cookbook someday is one of my big dreams.
What are you listening to?
Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, California Honeydrops
What are your favorite blogs / publications?
Domino, MyDomaine, Shelter Blog, Garden&Gun, Waiting on Martha, TheEveryGirl
