Artist Spotlight Series: Wayne Pate
I have another wonderful artist to add to the addiction list.
The works are whimsical yet, sophisticated and reminiscent of a more civilized time.
I am drawn to the faces in particular…shocking I know.
Brooklyn, New York
What is your training?
One’s Self
What inspires you and your designs?
My surroundings, Old World Architecture and Decorative Arts, The Bloomsbury Movement and a man named Henri Matisse
What is your favorite piece?
At the moment it would be “Roomscape No. I” Acrylic on Linen, 54″ x 48″, This piece is unique at the moment as it’s the only framed linen piece I’ve ever composed as an experiment. I only work on paper a so I was very pleased with the results and I will be creating compositions on linen on a regular basis.
How has the your area influenced your work?
I surround myself with objects that inspire me and my work, you should never have to look too far for inspiration.
What is your favorite restaurant in Brooklyn?
Al di La, a great little Italian spot in my neighborhood here in Brooklyn.
What is your favorite cocktail?
Champagne by unknown (here in the states) French producers if possible.
How do you balance personal life and work?
Integration of the two. I always have a sketchbook with me so I can have those little “stolen moments” where ever I may be.
Dream trip?
Summer in the South Of France
Dream commission?
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
For me, it would be the gift of a drawing, it’s something that lasts longer than a bottle of wine.
Who is your style icon?
Your favorite up and coming artist?
My eight year old daughter Zoe.
What is your most treasured possession?
My natural talent.
What are you reading?
I’m not a big reader, but the book I keep picking up when I do is, “Chatting With Henri Matisse, The Lost 1941 Interview“
What are you listening to?
What are your favorite blogs / publications?
A view of my favorites from Wayne’s portfolio.
I think I must have this tote with yet another fabulous face…
and charming prints available from Wayne’s website
