Artist Spotlight Series: Hayley Mitchell
I clearly love art and I am always drawn to abstract faces. They may seem on trend with a few current favorite artists like Sally King Benedict and Danny Geschardt but, I always think back to Picasso, Modigliani, and Clemente to name a few.
My latest love of faces was found on ETSY of all places and then was even spotted at High Point Market.
I am thrilled to introduce you to this Austin artist on the rise.
Austin, Texas
What is your training?
I studied Graphic Design at Abilene Christian University.
What inspires you and your designs?
I am often inspired by colorful abstract art and gorgeous interiors. Since childhood I’ve been fascinated by the intricate costumes and artistry of Bali, Japan, Nepal, Russia, India and I could go on. My grandmother brought me painted jars and batiked textiles from Bali when I was young. The colors and patterns really resonated with me.
What is your favorite piece?
I don’t really have a favorite but I do love this one!
How has the your area influenced your work?
Austin is a city filled with colorful, laid-back characters which I think is reflected in my work.
What is your favorite restaurant in Austin?
What is your favorite cocktail?
The work/personal life balance is a real struggle. They are so very intertwined. For many reasons I have chosen to work from home and it gets a little challenging with a 4, 3, and 18 month old running around! I try to work during nap time and once they are in bed. My baby sleeps and my girls play or paint with me. eekends and evenings are family time. I purposely keep my work email off my phone so it is easy to disconnect.
Dream trip?
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
Lindsey Meyers. She is a fellow Texan and divine abstract artist. I just adore all of her work. It is fresh, colorful and happy!
What is your most treasured possession?
Here are the 2 pieces I have bought because I am an art addict especially faces as previously mentioned.
A look at her current portfolio incredibly affordable available on ETSY.
They sell fast so if you are interested..JUMP!
Hayley even offers prints to suit and price point.
I still always advise originals for maintaining their value.
