Divine Designs by Jane Pope Jewelry
Jane Pope Cooper hardly needs introduction. I have known Jane Pope for ages (which I will not divulge). She is stylish, chic and talented. I covet her jewels to be sure. I am excited to spend more time with her in Charleston at the upcoming Southern C Summit.
Tickets are dwindling. Hop on it FAST if you do not want to miss the event of the season.
Spartanburg, South Carolina
What is your training?
What inspires you and your designs?
I am inspired by everything!! Organic forms, industrial lines, anything with texture, travels. We just got back from a quick trip to Tulum, Mexico. I always return from travel rejuvenated and inspired.
What is your favorite piece?
I just wrapped up an AMAZING custom order for a customer with an emerald she got in India. It is crazy drool worthy!
How has the your area influenced your work?
I have an incredible studio in Spartanburg. After working from a shoe box office with no windows in nyc and a nook in our dining room in our Georgetown townhouse, I can really appreciate the space. There is nothing like creating in a beautiful space. It is also fun that Page Davis, a painter just moved into the space next to mine.
What is your favorite restaurant in (your city)?
What is your favorite cocktail?
How do you balance personal life and work?
It is a fancy dance. My kiddos are in montessori school 5 days a week, so that I can work. But the truth is, there is always something coming up that changes my grand plan. If I get a call that one is sick, I try to take that day to really spend some time with that child and enjoy the moment. What is the point in stressing about my day being thrown?
At night I don’t get on my computer or phone until they are asleep and the hubs and I have had dinner.
My husband and I have been talking about a trip to Croatia for the past 3 years, and life has gotten in the way. I hope we can make it happen some year soon! I am also dying to go to Lisbon.
Dream commission?
I love working on custom orders of any kind. Maybe something for the one and only Holly Phillips?!? It would be bold and amazing!
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
I am the worst, and usually bring wine. I try to take notes from others who are good at thinking ahead, like my cousin Way Way Allen. She gives the cutest hand towels or kitchen towels with a cool cord tied around it. So I copy her when I think ahead;-)
Who is your style icon?
I love Taylor Tomasi Hill!
Your favorite up and coming artists/ designers?
I don’t know who is up and coming, but I have so many talented artist friends!! Sally King Benedict, Katie Stevenson, Way Way Allen, Sarah Boyts Yoder, Lulie Wallace, Ben Hollingsworth, Cindy DeAntoni, Anna Matthews
What is your most treasured possession?
An incredible diamond ring that my namesake, Aunt Jane, gave me. It was part of a ring and earring set that she and my mom split up that was from their grandmother. The historical story is that they were owned originally by an “Aunt Fair” on my great grandmother, Janie Marshall Hammond’s side of the family. As Sherman approached Columbia to burn the city, the set was entrusted to a slave who took them to Augusta, Ga., and returned them to Aunt Fair at war’s end. The ring and earrings truly are heirlooms, having been passed down through our family for five generations and possibly six.
What are you reading?
Well, I have had double vision for the past year plus after a brain tumor (see more from my blog post here https://janepopejewelry.com/one-year-ago-today/), so I haven’t been able to read much. My close up vision is good (thank goodness for work!), but I like to save the eyes for designs. I just had my second surgery to fix my peepers, so I look forward to getting back to reading soon! I have had GRACE on my bedside table for the past year. I cannot wait to read it!
What are you listening to?
I am a pandora girl. I am too distracted to think of specific songs or work on playlists. Right now my station of choice is Bon Iver.
