Alexandra Lebenthal Debuts Scalamandré by David Meister Gown at Conservatory Ball
Celebrated business woman, author and philanthropist Alexandra Lebenthal, took center stage at New York Botanical Garden’s annual gala benefit in Scalamandré’s Paradiso, a warp silk taffeta bouffant “bon bon” gown designed by Steven Stolman, Scalamandré’s president, and created through a special collaboration with the LA designer, David Meister.
Made exclusively for Ms. Lebenthal for this year’s New York Botanical Garden’s Conservatory Ball’s ‘An Evening in the Italian Renaissance Garden of Padua’, the selection of the Paradiso fabric, an instant Scalamandré classic, was a design choice that clearly resonated. Exquisitely rendered in a spectrum of lush, tropical hues, the painterly, sophisticated silk taffeta features passion flowers, trumpet vines, rosa rugosa, hibiscus, pomegranates and exotic tropical birds.
With a storied pedigree, Paradiso also evokes comparisons to the resplendent fabric on a quartet of tufted chairs in Mary Cassatt’s 1878 ‘Little Girl in a Blue Armchair’ at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It is documented that Ms. Cassatt apparently received some assistance from Edgar Degas.
Held on Thursday, June 6th, the Conservatory Ball generated critical funds to support the core mission of the New York Botanical Garden, including its internationally acclaimed programs in children’s education, botanical research, and horticulture.

I am getting ready to ship of my children (2 of 3) away to camp for a month. As cruel as I may sound (I know what you are thinking), these children love camp more than life itself. We have been waiting 11 months for the happy drop off day. I love to see them thrive and bloom in this happy environment.
